Client
A European gourmet food company offering premium organic and artisanal food products through a direct-to-consumer online store.
Project Overview
Key goals included expanding their international reach, enhancing product personalization, simplifying the subscription workflow, and optimizing logistics for temperature-sensitive shipping.
Challenges
The client needed product personalization, subscriptions, multilingual selling, stock synchronization, and temperature-sensitive logistics to work together inside one PrestaShop setup. The challenge was to add this complexity without making the storefront feel heavy or confusing.
Improving UX while keeping brand aesthetics clean and elegant
We implemented a custom inventory system that tracks product expiration dates and automatically hides products close to their sell-by date. For cold-chain logistics, we integrated the platform with a specialized shipping API to calculate eligible delivery zones and assign temperature-controlled carriers accordingly. Warnings are shown to customers outside supported regions.
Custom Product Personalization Engine
We developed a personalization tool allowing users to build custom gift boxes by dragging and dropping products into a virtual basket. Each item is validated for compatibility (e.g. allergens, storage requirements), and the final composition is displayed in real-time. Customers can add gift notes and select packaging style, which is reflected in the cart and order summary.
Enterprise Licensing & Seat Management
We created account logic for corporate buyers, making it easier to prepare repeat gift orders, save delivery details, and manage team-based purchases. This helped the client support seasonal corporate orders without relying on manual back-and-forth for every request.
Smart Subscription System with Delivery Calendar
Customers can subscribe to recurring deliveries of their favorite items, such as cheese boxes or fresh pasta. We created a delivery calendar allowing users to skip, reschedule, or modify orders up to 24 hours before shipment. Subscriptions include auto-discount logic, loyalty accrual, and optional reminders via email or SMS.
Multilingual, Multicurrency, and Tax Rule Configuration
To support their international expansion, we configured the store to support five languages and eight currencies. Each region applies specific VAT, shipping rules, and localized payment methods, with automatic region detection based on IP.
Inventory Sync with Retail Stores
Using the client’s in-house ERP, we developed a synchronization system that updates stock across all locations in near real-time. When a customer orders a product online, it can be fulfilled from the closest physical store. Pickup points and stock availability are shown on the product page.
Interactive Recipe-Based Cross-Sell
We created a recipe section that dynamically cross-sells products used in each recipe. When a user visits a recipe page, they can add all ingredients to cart in one click. Recipes are filterable by dietary preference, region, or seasonality.
Dynamic Promo Banners & Seasonal Themes
Marketing staff can now launch time-based or stock-based promotions using a visual editor. Banners change automatically based on inventory levels (e.g. low stock urgency), upcoming holidays, or campaign start/end dates. Seasonal themes adjust the color palette and highlight relevant products across the storefront.
Conclusion
Through deep integration, thoughtful UX, and flexible logistics solutions, we helped the client enhance operations and drive long-term customer loyalty.
