Magento 2 with Hyvä for a Growing Retailer
They already had a Magento 2 store — but it was slow, overloaded with third-party plugins, and increasingly hard to manage
Client
The client is a home & lifestyle retailer operating across Central Europe, offering customizable products ranging from furniture components to modular storage systems. Their catalog wasn’t huge, but each product had dozens of configuration options and dynamic pricing. They served both end customers and professional resellers, requiring differentiated pricing, tax logic, and checkout flows.
Project Overview
When the client reached out to us, they already had a Magento 2 store — but it was slow, overloaded with third-party plugins, and increasingly hard to manage. The store struggled to handle both B2C and B2B flows, and mobile performance was a particular weak spot. They knew they needed something leaner and faster, but didn’t want to sacrifice flexibility. That’s where Hyvä came in.
Migration to Hyvä
After evaluating performance bottlenecks and frontend complexity, we proposed migrating the store’s theme to Hyvä. The result was a cleaner codebase, faster load times, and significantly improved Lighthouse scores — especially on mobile. We rebuilt the frontend from scratch using Tailwind CSS and Alpine.js, dropped legacy dependencies, and replaced slow JS components with minimal equivalents.
We also implemented a fallback checkout strategy: while most of the site ran on Hyvä, we excluded the checkout from the theme scope using the fallback module to maintain compatibility with existing payment and shipping modules.
UX and Speed Optimization
With Hyvä in place, we optimized layout rendering, implemented lazy loading, and converted all images to WebP. Custom product pages were redesigned with fewer reloads and dynamic option previews. The result was a 93/100 Google PageSpeed score on mobile and near-instant interaction readiness.
Navigation and filters were reworked to avoid full page refreshes, using AlpineJS for interactivity without relying on heavyweight JavaScript libraries.
Configurable Product Improvements
Products often had 5 to 8 options — color, finish, length, accessories, etc. We built a visual product configurator with live previews and price adjustments. Instead of loading multiple product pages, users could switch attributes inline. On mobile, this reduced decision time and bounce rate significantly.
Wholesale Pricing & B2B Logic
We implemented login-gated access to wholesale pricing tiers and added the ability to toggle between retail and wholesale views. The cart and checkout displayed tax-inclusive or exclusive pricing depending on customer type. Admins could assign B2B users to specific VAT zones and apply different shipping methods and minimum order values accordingly.
Admin Tools and Support Features
We added a custom order overview dashboard, so staff could quickly track order status, payment method, and shipping flags. A module for saved carts allowed sales reps to create and share pre-configured quotes with customers. We also introduced a feedback module on product pages that fed directly into Zendesk, helping the client prioritize future improvements.
Conclusion
Hyvä isn’t just a trend, it’s a way to cut the bloat and get Magento back to what it does best: powerful eCommerce with room to grow. By combining a modern frontend with thoughtful backend customization, we helped this client create a fast, user-friendly, and scalable storefront that serves both individual shoppers and wholesale partners alike.
